For accommodating larger ships the increase of depth at the existing waterfront was impossible due to the bearing capacity requirements. Structurally, the berth represented a pile-foundation jetty on reinforced concrete tubular piles. For harbour basin dredging from the existent elevation of minus 6.5 m to the required minus 10.0 m the berth rehabilitation was needed.
The essence of the engineering solution proposed by GT Corporation consisted of:
construction in front of the quayline of an underwater sheet pile wall; anchoring of underwater wall with soil anchors.
Installation of additional piles in the structure’s foundation
The implementation of proposed solution ensured:
maximum use of the existing structural elements in the construction of the rehabilitated structure; minimum change of the operational regime of quay areas during work execution; possibility for future depth increase at the berth up to 12 m.
